Canes and Dolphins

Hola freakitos. I've been absent from my blog as I have been traveling a lot for work lately but I am back on here now.

How about my Canes and Dolphins? I know that as soon as I write anything about them they are gonna suck it up for me but I am very proud. Both of my squads had horrible seasons last year so this turnaround is amazing.

Look for me at the Miami/Ga Tech game tomorrow evening here in Atlanta. I have a feeling I'm going to come away disappointed; I just don't feel that Miami can stop that freakin' triple option offense that Tech runs but we'll see.

The Dolphins play New England on Sunday so both my boys have huge games this week. I'll be praying and hoping!!

Ciao for now freaks!

Saturday Games

Hola freakitos,
I'm excited about this weekend's games. Who knew the Big 12 was going to be fun to watch this year??? That is La Chica's brand of football: offense, offense and more offense!

Please comment on my games this week; I still have not sent in my picks for my pool:

Miami at Virginia / Mia by 1 / Pick: Miami

Northwestern at Minnesota / Minn by 5.5 / Pick: NW?

Tulsa at Arkansas / Tul by 7 / Pick: Tulsa

Pittsburgh at Notre Dame / ND by 5.5 / Pick: Pitt

Florida St at Georgia Tech / FSU by 1.5 / Pick: GT

Oregon at California / Cal by 3 / Pick: Oregon

Florida at Georgia / Fla by 5.5 / Pick: Georgia (this should be fun)

Nebraska at Oklahoma /OU by 21.5 / Pick: OU

Texas at Texas Tech / Tex by 6 / Pick: TT (another fun one)

New Mexico at Utah / Utah by 8 / Pick: Utah

Thoughts??? By the by, happy halloween freaks!

La Chica Is Going Crazy

Hola freakitos, I'm sorry that I completely forgot to enter a blog entry last week for last Saturday's games but what do you care?!

Here are my picks for this week based on the pool I'm entered into:

Boston College at North Carolina / NC by 3 /Chica pick: BC

Texas Tech at Kansas / Kan by 2 /Chica pick: TT

Kentucky at Florida /Fla by 24.5 (for real?) / Chica pick: Kentucky

Oklahoma at Kansas St/ OU by 19/Chica pick: OU

Georgia at LSU / LSU by 2.5 / Chica pick: LSU

Oklahoma St at Texas / Tex by 13 / Chica pick: Okie St (this should be a fun game to watch)

Virginia at Georgia Tech / GT by 11.5 / Chica pick: UVA

Colorado at Missouri / Mizz by 22 / Chica pick: Colorado

Ohio St at Penn St / PS by 2.5 / Chica pick: PSU

USC at Arizona / USC by 15 / Chica pick: USC

Now, keep in mind, I just need to either beat or match the spread!!! Isn't this fun? I will be out of town most of next week freakitos for business. I'll still be checking the blog so I look forward to your commentary on la football this weekend, pro and college.

Speaking of pro: my Dolphins have digressed. Oh well, at least we have won 2 games.

One more pick: Wake Forest at Miami - Canes will lose (sniff, sniff).

10.13.2008

Monday Thoughts

Another weekend gone by too quickly my freakitos. The main thing I want to discuss is Tommy Bowden's firing at Clemson; am I shocked? Absolutely not. I know expectations are high these days but how many years has Clemson been picked to either win the ACC or compete for it yet how many years have they disappointed their alumni and fans? That falls on the head coach!

I have a question for my fellow Cane fans: if Clemson and Auburn can just up and fire their head coach and offensive coordinator respectively during the middle of the season, why can't Miami fire Patrick Nix?! Good grief he is a horrible coordinator and it's making Randy Shannon look like an even worse head coach. I'M JUST SAYIN'!

The Dolphins lost in a heartbreaker; this seems to be the theme for my teams.

How about New England? I'm so glad they suck!

Texas is ranked number 1....thoughts? Regardless, what a fun game that was to watch? On another note, how boring was the LSU/Fla game? LSU never showed up and got blown away...wow.

Gotta run freakitos, stay tuned for my picks! Ciao.

10.10.2008

It's Almost Saturday Again...

...and even though I'm excited for the weekend, I'm worried about yet another loss by my beloved Hurricanes to a team they should beat. The Canes play Central Florida this weekend and they just might lose because their coaches SUCK!

I'm taking a week off from my pool this week as we can take a bye week and I've chosen this weekend.

I'm excited about my Dolphins though, they are the only glimmer of hope in my sports world. Yes, I know that's kind of sad. Anyway, they play Houston this Sunday and will probably lose because that's the way my life is right now with sports! Woe is me, can someone tell me I'm pretty?

Just kidding sports freakitos; I'm just feeling sorry for myself.

10.03.2008

Los Picks

Friends and freakitos, I'm sorry for such a boring ass blog entry this week but it's been crazy. I've been out of the office a lot this week and then when I'm here, I'm swamped. This is going to be very brief and to the point:

Florida St vs Miami: I don't think the Canes will bounce back from that horrible loss to nasty ass Butch Davis and those mangey leg humping Tar Heels last week. Pick: FSU.

The rest of these are based off my pool based on the spread, check 'em out:

Penn St at Purdue: Penn St by 12: Pick: Penn ST
Rutgers at West Virginia: WV by 14 Pick WVU
Kentucky at Alabama: Ala by 16.5: Pick: Kentucky
Texas Tech at Kansas St: TT by 7.5 Pick: TT
Navy at Air Force: AF by 6: Pick: Navy
Texas A&M at Oklahoma St: Okla St by 23: Pick Texas A&M
Texas at Colorado: Tex by 14: Pick: UT
Ohio St at Wisconsin: Ohio St by 3: Pick: Wisc
Oregon at USC: USC by 17: Pick: Oregon
Missouri at Nebraska: Mis by 11: Pick: Mizzou

Thoughts?

Pickitos

Let's not beat a dead horse but what about that game last night between USC and Oregon St?! It just goes to prove how crucial home field advantage is in college football. Wow, kudos to the BEAVERS for an outstanding game. I thought USC was going to come back but alas, they did not. I hope there are more huge upsets this weekend!

Okay, here are my picks for this week; again, I'm basing this on my pool that's based on the spread.

Mississippi at Florida / Line is FL by 24 / My pick: Ole Miss

Houston at East Carolina / Line is ECU by 11 / My pick: undecided

Colorado at Florida St (in Jacksonville) / Line is FSU by 6 / My pick: Colorado

Arkansas at Texas / Line is Texas by 28 / My pick: Arkansas

Colorado St at California / Line is Cal by 25 / My pick: CSU

TCU at Oklahoma / Line is OU by 18 / My pick: OU?

Mississippi St at LSU / Line is LSU by 25 / My pick: LSU

Alabama at Georgia / Line is GA by 7 / My pick: AL

Illinois at Penn St / Line is PSU by 14 / My pick: PSU

Virginia Tech at Nebraska / Line is Neb by 7 / My pick: VT

Let me know what you think!!!

9.19.2008

Picks and Other Items

Hola freakitos. Before I dive into this week's games, let me discuss last night's game between West Virginia and Colorado: I said this in January when WVU hired Bill Stewart as their head coach and I will say it again, it is a LarryCokerization all over again. Bill Stewart is going to run the Mountaineers into the ground.

Did anyone see that horrible time management at the end of last night's game? He was the main reason that game went into overtime and thus causing his team the game. WOW! That's all I can say except I feel sorry for WV fans and alumni because the pain they are about to endure during the Cokerization is unbearable and no one deserves to go through it. Okay, I'm done. On with this week's picks.

This week is a little different, I'm going to introduce you to my weekly pool. I've mentioned it before but it's based on the spread and then you have to assign points to each game. The goal is to obviously pick as many games correctly as possible and to also assign point values to the right games and accumulate the most points, capice? Let's go.

Alabama at Arkansas, Line Ala by 9.5. My pick: Ala

Florida at Tennessee, Line Fla by 8. My pick: FL

Boise St at Oregon, Line Oregon by 12. My pick: Boise St

Miami at Texas A&M, Line Miami by 4. My pick: Miami

Notre Dame at Michigan St, Line MSU by 8.5. My pick: ND

Utah at Air Force, Line Utah by 7.5. My pick: Utah

Wake Forest at Florida St, Line FSU by 4. My pick: I'm still thinking

Rice at Texas, Line Texas by 31. My pick: Texas

LSU at Auburn, Line LSU by 3. My pick: LSU

Georgia at Arizona St, Line Georgia by 6.5. My pick: GA (even GA screwed me by 1 point last week).

Let me know what you think about my pickings.

9.16.2008

Go Chica Go Chica Go Chica!

Hola freakitos, I just wanted to be obnoxious and braggadocious for a minute as this will probably be my only chance this season; your Chica won her pool for last weekend's games.....YEAH!

That's right, freakitos, out of 75 entries, I won the most games. Now, you may be saying to yourself, big deal but let me just say: it is! This pool is not just based on picking who is going to win the game but it's based on the spread and that's hard as hail. Then once you decide that, you have to assign point values to each game. See what I'm saying?

This week, I'm going to introduce you guys to the pool and maybe you can help me (smile).

Look for my post later this week.

Off Topic: Did anyone watch the Monday Night Football game last night? If so, you saw the bonehead move that DeSean Jackson made for the Eagles when he made an awesome catch and would of had a touchdown had he not started showboating before he reached the endzone! MORON

9.12.2008

Los Pickitos

Better late than never freakitos, here are my picks for this week:

Friday:

#13 Kansas vs #19 South Florida - I was the only person who didn't join the USF bandwagon last year and I still don't like them but this game should be a fun one to watch. I love a lot of offense and this should provide that for me. I'm going to go with the Bulls simply because they're at home. Pick: USF

Saturday:

#2 Georgia vs South Carolina - Spurrier always provides a bit of a spark and interest in these SEC games against tougher opponents. Last year Carolina beat GA at home so look for the Bulldogs to avenge their loss. I don't think it's going to be a blowout but what do I know?! I do think Georgia will win, however. Pick: UGA

UCLA vs #18 BYU - After UCLA's victory against Tennessee, I thought they deserved a spot on my blog. BYU should handle them at home but look out for the Bruins! Pick: BYU

Georgia Tech vs Virginia Tech - even though VT is struggling so far, I think this should be a fun game to watch. Those obnoxious Va Tech rednecks will be good and drunk by kickoff so it should very loud up in there. Pick: GT

#5 Ohio State vs #1 USC - Geez, if I hear the name "Beanie" Wells or whatever the hell his name is one more time on ESPN, I may vomit. "The best running back in history" may not even play tomorrow night and I think that irony is hysterical. Personally, I think USC will destroy the Buckeyes but who knows. I also thought Florida would destroy my beloved Canes but they did not so anything can happen. Pick: USC

#10 Wisconsin vs #21 Fresno State - I love that Fresno State is ranked and I love that they have a shot at beating a Big 10 school! Wisconsin has issues winning on the road so with that, I'm going with the Bulldogs. Pick: Fresno St

I'm done for now, next week I'm going to introduce you to my football pool I'm in this year. I need your help, it's based on the spread and God knows I am horrible at that! Hell, I'm horrible at prognostications period so help me freaks!

9.05.2008

Picks

Hola freakitos. I usually send this out earlier but better late than never. Here are some picks for this Saturday, however, keep in mind that there are only a handful (if that) of games that are interesting this weekend. Second week of the season and the games still suck!

Saturday:

Georgia Tech vs Boston College
Aren't there about 14 players hurt on Tech's team? I'm just kidding but I don't think this young Tech team will beat the Eagles in Baaahston. I don't know how to spell a really annoying New England accent, sorry. Pick: Boston College

Ole Miss vs #20 Wake Forest
Geez, if Wake loses at home to Ole Miss then the ACC should cease playing out the rest of the year. Actually, in all seriousness, Ole Miss has improved so..... Pick: Wake Forest

#8 West Virginia vs East Carolina
I put this game on here because I'm curious to see what ECU will do after their "upset" of Virginia Tech last week. Go Pirates! Pick: WVU

Miami vs #5 Florida
Sportschica talking to God: Dear Lord, please do not let my beloved Hurricanes be humiliated in front of 90,000 obnoxious Gator fans and the rest of the country watching on television. Please do not let Randy Shannon look like a chicken with his head cut off during the game. And finally, Lord, please do not allow the obnoxious Gator fans to throw beer on my beloved Hurricanes.
I think that sums up how I think this game will go! Pick: Florida

9.02.2008

Last Weekend and a New Dog

Before I begin to recap my sucky weekend, well sucky as far as my picks go, I wanted to show this photo of Georgia's new mascot: Uga VII
Now, again, before I get hate mail about showing any kind of favortism towards Georgia: yall know me by now! I do love that dog though; I'm not going to lie.
Okay back to this past weekend, here is what I have to say about it: WTF????!!!!! Your Chica is involved in a pool where you bet on 10 games a week based on the spread and I stunk it up!!! See, this is why I don't pick games based on the spread. I'll keep you posted on my status but I'm sucking.
Now, what about the game last night between UCLA and Tennessee, that was fun and I'm happy that the Bruins pulled the minor upset.
As for the Clemson Tigers and the rest of the ACC (insert Virginia Tech), wow! Alabama came to play and Clemson believed all the bad kool aid they were fed. Number 9 team in the country my ass.
I have to get back to my day job but watch out for my picks for this upcoming weekend. I'm concerned about Hurricane Hanna as that b*tch is likely to cancel my game versus Florida on Saturday night. We shall see.
Have a great week my freakitos.

8.27.2008

CORRECTION

Not that a lot of you care, but the Clemson/Alabama game is at the Georgia Dome and not Death Valley this Saturday night.

I'll say this again, I'm really looking forward to this game. I hope Clemson doesn't pull their usual choke job!

8.22.2008

That Time of the Year

Hola Freaks! It's that time of the year again so most of us are so happy. I'm so ready to bid farewell to summer and bring on the crispy Saturdays of fall. BRING IT!

With that said, I've been out of the loop due to the day job but here are the picks for next week's games. I know, it's a bit early but I need to do it while the doing it is good. I'm going to change it up during the season and maybe add a little "spread" but for this first entry, let's just do it the good ole fashioned way.

I'm going to warn you, the pickings are slim. It's the first weekend of the year and every team is playing a weak-ass opponent and I'm not going to waste my time surveying those games. Here are 3 games I am interested in and of these 3, only 2 involved teams that are both ranked.

Saturday
#24 Alabama vs #9 Clemson - This game should be awesome. It's in Death Valley and for those of you who have been to a game at Clemson, you know it is louder than hell up in there! I hope Clemson doesn't lay a fat egg and choke as they normally do. I hate Alabama and I hate their coach so for that reason alone, I'm pulling for the Tigers! Clemson wins (I hope). 8:00 on ABC

#20 Illinois vs #6 Missouri - No, these are not typos, yes both Illinois and Missouri are ranked in the top 25 to begin the season. One wonders how upside down the universe is when these 2 loser teams are ranked and meanwhile, my beloved Hurricanes might lose to Charleston-Southern.....sigh. I don't care about this game in the slightest but I'm going to pick Mizzou. 8:30 on ESPN

Monday
#18 Tennessee vs UCLA - There are many things that I love about the opening weekend of college football but in the last couple of years, the main thing is that there is at least one game on each night starting on the Thursday before the first weekend.....God bless this wonderful country. The Vols should destroy UCLA but it will be fun to watch the Bruins and their new coach Rick Neuhisel. I know I completely butchered the spelling of his last name but you know who I'm talking about. Going with Tennessee on this one. 8:00 on ESPN

8.07.2008

Favre to NYC!

Evening sports freakitos. It's been awhile! I'm in Chicago for work but I couldn't resist writing this entry.

It's almost mid August and we all know that means football is right around the corner; I'm going to put together an entry on the preseason college polls but what do you guys think about Georgia getting a number 1 ranking? Is it deserved? Is this finally Georgia's year (hell it's been 28!)? Or, is this preseason ranking the kiss of death? I can't wait to find out.

Now, we'll discuss all that later but as you guys have heard by now, Brett (1 t or 2?) Favre is headed back to the NFL to the NY Jets! Unbelieveable.

Thoughts? Of course, now we have to continue to hear about whether or not he's going to retire after this season or if he's coming back. Or, if he retires, if he's going to come back after he retires. Or, if he doesn't retire, will he retire, BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH! I'm so sick of it.

7.08.2008

You Know....

I'm getting a little sick and tired of getting busted on MY OWN DAMN BLOG about what I do write about and what I do not write about. I was on vacation this weekend people, so back the hell off!

Goodbye Uga VI

The University of Georgia's mascot, Uga VI, died last night in his sleep. You know that I am not a Georgia fan; in fact, I really dislike them but you also know that I just love that dog!

Regardless of which Uga it was, it's always the best mascot in sports and you gotta love them! I love the way he just barrels onto the field, barks at the camera-man and of course, watching him resting on his bag of ice.

According to the article below and his owner, Uga died peacefully in his sleep in Savannah. I know all dogs go to heaven so rest in peace Uga!

Euro Cup 2008

I know, I know, no one who reads my blog is a soccer fan but I must admit, the Euro Cup has captured my interest. I am not a big soccer fan either but I do watch the World Cup every 4 years and I have been watching the Euro Cup this year.

Tomorrow, Spain goes against Russia in a semi-final match and the winner goes on to face Germany on Sunday. I've only one thing to say: VIVA LA ESPANA!!

Also, Wimbledon is going on and Le Tour de France begins July 5th. I'm a huge cycling fan and especially for Le Tour so I can't wait as I will be glued to my Versus channel throughout July. Hey, I gotta watch something waiting for college football and since my Braves are sucking.

By the by, freakitos, I am in Vancouver, Canada this week for work and I must say, it is a beautiful city. Speaking of that, I have to get ready for dinner so ciao for now. There's a lot of sports going on this weekend and next week for a summer month so tune in.

Ciao.

6.18.2008

Alas, It Is Over

The NBA Finals ended last night, thank God.

Fret not dear NBA fans because the season starts back up again in about 3 weeks (insert lots of sarcasm here)!

Geez.

6.13.2008

College World Series and Other Misc Items

Well, well, well, my freakitos, here I am FINALLY making a new post on my blog. It's been awhile and I do apologize for that. I'm not making any excuses but it's been a busy 5 months for me work-wise and that's why the blog has suffered. No excuse though.

Anyway, I wanted to talk about the college world series that starts this weekend. My beloved Hurricanes are the top national seed and will start out playing Georgia Saturday night! Now, I'm a little concerned because there are so many expectations for the Canes that I have a bad feeling about this. They should beat Georgia easily but...... GO CANES!

I also wanted to touch on the NBA finals because an anonymous poster gave me shit about not writing about it and here is what I have to say: I don't give a DAMN about the NBA finals!

Off topic: What about Big Brown? Ugh, horse racing needed a positive outing and the Triple Crown would have been just that but Big Brown had other ideas. No one will ever know, barring health issues, why Big Brown ran the way he did last Saturday in the Belmont but what a disappointment. It literally broke my heart, HOWEVER, not as much as the heartbreak I felt when Eight Belles was euthanized on the track at the Kentucky Derby. I still believe that horse racing needs to be evaluated for the better of the horses and if Kent Desormeaux (I know I misspelled that) felt that he "had no horse" last Saturday, then I'm going to go with that. I would rather that and have the horse lose as he did than have a hurt or dead horse for the sake of a Triple Crown! Maybe next year...

It's only 2 months until the football season and it's gonna drag! And I would feel pleasure in the thought of baseball but let's face it, my professional team is spiralling (I know I misspelled that as well). My hometown Braves cannot win on the road and lately not at home either. I can't talk about it anymore, just as I will probably never see a Triple Crown winner, I will probably never see my Braves win another World Series.

And with that, I will leave you for now. Take care my faithful readers and thanks for stopping by! Ciao.

5.06.2008

Horse Racing

La Chica just returned from a mini vacation to San Diego (California, that is) and it was wonderful to get the hell out of Atlanta for a long weekend. Geez!

As most of you know, I am a huge fan of thoroughbred racing. I love the Derby and all the pageantry that goes with it and I pray for a Triple Crown each year. However, after this past weekend's events with Eight Belles, I have changed my mind. As much as I love sports and the Triple Crown, I'm an animal lover first and foremost and I can no longer watch a sport where animals die.

I was torn on this 2 years ago when Barbaro was injured during the Preakness and then had to be put down a year later but Saturday's incident with Eight Belles sealed the deal for me. I know these horses are bred and born to run but not at the expense of dying when they're a mere 3 years old.

I know this will not impact anything in anyone else's life but for me, I'm not watching anymore horse races. It breaks my heart to decide this but it doesn't compare to the heartbreak of watching a horse have to be euthanized after running the race of her life. I was cheering emphatically for the filly on Saturday as she was the lone filly this year and the first one to run in the Derby since 1999 but no more.

That's my entry for today. Ciaosito freakitos.

4.30.2008

The Blog Is Not Dead!

La Chica has been working!

And for the record, the NFL Draft is not my biggest concern; I'm more worried about the Kentucky Derby this weekend!

I have not had a chance to check out how my Dolphins did in the draft. I know we got Jake Long as our number 1 pick but is that good? How about the Falcons getting Matt Ryan? As one of my buddies said (Tara), Matt will be seeing a lot of Grady Hospital during his tenure in Atlanta; unless of course, Arthur got him some awesome OLine men.

How did your teams do? How about the Hawks being tied with the Celtics in the playoffs? As you all know, I hate the NBA but how much fun would it be if the measly Hawks beat the team who was supposed to win it all this year?!

Gotta run for now freakitos, talk amongst yourselves for a bit!

4.08.2008

Bow to La Chica

La Chica won one of her pools last night with Kansas winning it all. Now, for all of you yahoos who made fun of me for picking ALL NUMBER 1 SEEDS IN THE FINAL FOUR: "how ya like me now?"

I have to get back to work. Ciaosito freakitos.

4.07.2008

La Chica Rocks!

The Final Four championshiop game is on tonight and check this out: Your Chica doesn't even need Kansas to win for her to win her pool! Even though, KU was my pick for the national championship, they do not need to win for me!

Damn, I wish I was this good at picking football games!

4.02.2008

Final Four Is Set..

...As you know, the Final Four is set and for the first time in history all the number 1 seeds made it to the Final Four! To the yahoos who gave your Chica shit for picking all number 1 seeds in one of my picks: HA!

Here it is:

(1) Memphis vs (1) UCLA
(1) UNC vs (1) Kansas

Remember, this is what I picked and my championship game is: Memphis vs Kansas.

I'm pretty certain Memphis can take UCLA but I now have my doubts about Kansas upsetting UNC; I don't think it's going to happen. If it does, I win my pool! Cheer for La Chica!

3.25.2008

Super Ugh

Yeah, yeah, yeah: I know I should not have picked UConn to go to the Final Four but your Chica uses history as part of her pickings. For example, when UConn won its last two national championships in '99 and '04 respectfully, they were not picked to go all the way. Or even picked to make it to the Final Four....so there!

Regardless, your Chica is still in one of her pools. I'm in 3rd place in one of my pools!!!!

Go Kansas!!! And for the record, it's all well and good to see these tiny, underdog schools do well BUT NOT WHEN IT JACKS UP MY BRACKETS!!!

I'm just sayin'.

3.19.2008

The Tourney

We all know the NCAA Basketball Tournament starts tomorrow (March 20th) at noonish. If you haven't made your picks, what are you waiting on?? I just filled out mine today and did 2 versions. I've got UNC winning it (I think) in one and Kansas winning it all in another. I always get screwed when I pick number 1 seeds to go all the way, by the way!

Here's what I have:
SportsChica1: Final Four = UNC vs Kansas and UConn vs Memphis. Yes, freakitos, I went with UConn making it to the Final Four in this bracket and I know I will get screwed on this! So anyway, I've got UNC vs UConn in the championship game with Carolina winning it all.

SportsChica2: Final Four = UNC vs Kansas and Memphis vs UCLA. In the championship game, I have Memphis vs Kansas with the Jayhawks winning it all.

Honestly, now that I look back at my brackets, I'm a little scared. Okay, I've told you what I have, now let me know about your final picks!

P.S. Everyone says the Monday after the Super Bowl should be a holiday, well I also think the first 2 days of the Madness should be paid time off as well. I'm just sayin'!

3.17.2008

La Chica is still around...

Fret not my freakitos, I am still alive and kicking.

I will be posting a blog entry this week about the Madness! I have several questions and one of them is why did the ACC only get 4 bids to the tourney? And yes I am shocked the Canes are one of them. I have a feeling St Mary's school for girls will beat them on Friday.

I'm not bashing my team but they are sloppy most of the time and inconsistent!

Anyway, I'll be back to talk some smack with you all.

Ciaosito.

2.26.2008

Hey Y'all

Sorry, I could not resist that "Britney" greeting. I'm sitting here at home, working on WORK. Yes, that's what I said, freakitos. It's 7:05 in the PM and your Chica is working. Hence, the reason for no recent blog entry.

I'm not making excuses but it's just been busy since I started my new gig. I'm not bitching though, I just wanted to let you all know why LA CHICA has not been posting!

We are coming up on March Madness in a couple of weeks and this freaks me out because I cannot believe it's almost that time of the year. GEEZ. I promise I will post some entries on the Madness when the time gets closer.

Also, baseball season is fast approaching or at least Spring Training and that's exciting. There is nothing like a baseball game on a beautiful lazy Sunday in the Spring at Turner Field and I can't wait. Grrrrl.

I know this is a sports blog but this election stuff is crazy. I am a little tired of it already and we still have the rest of the year to deal with these candidates. I'm not going to lie, I really don't like any of them but anyway......(sorry but I've got Fox News on in the background and that's all they talk about)

Alright, freakitos, time for your Chica to chill out for the evening. Stay tuned......

2.14.2008

More on Spygate...

Hola freakitos, your Chica has been crazy busy with work but fret not, my regularly scheduled blog entries will start up again soon. And since we are in a "down cycle" with sports right now, meaning the only thing I care about is college basketball at this time of year, if you have any suggestions for blog entry topics, let me know!

Okay, this link talks about Roger Goodell's meeting with Senator Arlen Spector and accuses Belichick of "cheating" since 2000! Check it out:

http://www.ajc.com/falcons/content/shared-gen/ap/General_Football_News/FBN_Goodell_Specter.html?cxntnid=sprt021408e

I'll be back later.

2.07.2008

National Signing Day

Finally, we Hurricane fans have something to be happy about. Yesterday was national signing day and here is the way ESPN ranked the top 5:

1. Miami
2. Clemson
3. Alabama
4. Florida
5. Georgia

Check out the rest of the list here:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/football/columns/story?columnist=luginbill_tom&id=3233826

Who knows what this means, a lot of times these kids do not pan out but sometimes they do. That's what La Chica is hoping for!

HA!

I hate to be obnoxious but I'm only following the lead of some of my readers who left nasty little comments about the 1972 Miami Dolphins and how the Patriots could beat that team, blah, blah, blah. Well guess what: the Patriots LOST!!!!

I'm overjoyed; if I had more time this morning, I would go off on such an annoying tangent but I have to get to work

Go NY Giants! I'm so happy you beat an over-confident NE team and shattered their "perfect" season. They may have gone 18-0 but it doesn't mean a damn thing if you do not win the Super Bowl.

The truth hurts, no?

Aye!

Hola sports freakitos! It's been awhile but your Chica has excuses.

I've started a new "real" job this week and thus have not had much time to write blog entries. Plus, I've had issues with my personal laptop which has hindered me from traveling on the web. Hence, no new entries.

And, I don't have a lot of time right now so let me get to the down and dirty: the Super Bowl.

We all know it's on Sunday at 6pm eastern time. We all know who is playing. We all know who is going to win BUT we all know who La Chica wants to win! Go Giants!!!

I hate all NY teams and I hate all NE teams but as a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan, I want my team to hold the record for the only perfect season in NFL history. Do I think that will hold up, no but a Chica can dream.

Go Giants! I've got to run but ciao for now and enjoy the hell out of the Super Bowl!

Is It So Wrong?

Is it so wrong to be a sports fan and to love one's respective teams? This is a constant argument or uncomfortable conversation that I continue to have with one of my best friends. I always come away from it pissed off and wondering why I even have to answer.

As a devoted fan of the Miami Hurricanes and Dolphins and my Atlanta Braves, it sucks! All of my teams seem to be in a bad place right now, there is light at the end of the tunnel but that's not the topic of this particular entry, the point is: Why would someone choose such pain unless it was a passion? I grew up loving sports, unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, we all know that when our teams win and win championships, it's orgasmic, but when they lose it's painful and heartbreaking. So, why would one choose this passion? Why would one choose this pain?

I know, I'm being a bit dramatic but I'm trying to get my point across. I'm done making excuses for what I love; it's who I am (LA CHICA!) and if people don't like it then don't deal with me.

So today, I'm going to continue on my merry way and watch some football. I hope you do the same.

Ciao.

NFL Playoffs

Well, the conference title games are set for this weekend as follows:

AFC
San Diego vs New England - Sunday at 3:00

NFC
New York Giants vs Green Bay - Sunday at 6:30

Here's my thing, I just want someone to beat New England but now that the Colts are out of it, I doubt San Diego will be successful. They might not be with their starting quarterback and running back, Tomlinson. That will suck. It's difficult to beat New England as it is but especially without key starters.

Speaking of the Chargers quarterback, Philip Rivers, when did he become a taunter? He was taunting the fans at Indy after last Sunday's game versus the Colts. How old is this guy? This is not behavior indicative to an NFL quarterback worth anything. You never see Peyton or Brady doing this. Nor did you ever see the other greats doing it: Marino, Elway, Montana, Favre, etc.
Grow up FREAK and just play ball!

At this juncture, La Chica is going to cheer for the Packers and the old man, Favre. As long as he doesn't cry during press conferences. Once one tear is shed, I'm out!

Georgia Dome Flu

Hola freakitos. Sorry about the delayed response regarding the national championship game but your Chica has been out of it for the last 4 days with a crazy flu-like funk. It never fails, every time I go to the Georgia Dome during the cold and flu season, I catch some nasty somethin' somethin'. I'm much better now but still have a smoker's type of hack that needs to go away.

There's not much to say about the BCS title game that you guys have not already read or watched on television. I knew Ohio State was not going to lay down for this game but in the end LSU would still take care of business. Let's face it, OSU did not deserve to be in this game.

Maybe LSU didn't either but they looked good. Maybe it was because they were healthy, who knows. As usual with the BCS, we will never know what could have been. What if LSU would have played a more worthy opponent such as USC or even Georgia. I still hold steadfast that because UGA did not win their conference they should not be in a BCS title game but they were a better and more deserving team than OSU. And I know LSU and UGA could not have played each other in the national title game but still.

The good thing is because of the way this season unfolded and screwed so many teams, big time conferences such as the SEC are bitching and demanding some kind of playoff. I think this actually might happen in my lifetime!!! Take the top 8 teams and make it a playoff, people! Screw the BCS because it will certainly screw you!

As for Oklahoma and now Ohio State: You 2 are now tied for the distinguished (insert sarcasm) honor of being the Buffalo Bills of college football. OU has lost its last 4 BCS bowl games and Ohio State has lost its last 2 title games. Look for number 3 next year as you know, the media will once again vote them in the preseason top 5, they will go undefeated due to their cushy schedule and make it back next year only to be beaten again by another SEC school. Just sayin'!

Dolphins and the Mountaineers

West Virginia has hired Bill Stewart as their new head coach:

Hmmm, this reminds me of the Larry Coker hiring. The players wanted him and he was cheap. In addition, he inherited a talented team that I could have coached to a national championship. Stewart is a nice guy but I just don't see him as head coach material much like Coker. We shall see.

On to my Dolphins: Parcells has gone in this week and taken care of business by firing the GM and the head coach! So far, I'm happy about all of this. It's going to take a couple of years but the Dolphins will be back!

One more thing: Why does OU always get a break when they lose a big game? This is their 4th straight BCS loss! Next year, they will be ranked in the top 5 before the season even starts again. Give me a break!

Quick Thoughts

Thank you bowl selection committee and the BCS for failing us fans again. As predicted, the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl were complete bores.

Hawaii was completely outmatched by Georgia and proved they did not deserve to be in a BCS game. I'm not taking anything away from their undefeated season but when you have to go into triple overtime to beat a team like San Jose State, then you know you do not deserve to be playing on a stage like last night's. Just sayin'.

As for the Rose Bowl, I really do not have much to say other than the obvious: The Rose Bowl committee or whatever these morons call themselves should be taken out back and given wedgies. They chose to honor a tradition that no one gives a shit about instead of pairing the better teams up for this game. I've said it a thousand times, Georgia and USC should have played in that game this year.

On the flip side, what a great game the Capital One Bowl turned out to be. Kudos to Michigan for playing as hard as they did!

Gotta run freakitos. Let's hope tonight's game between West Virginia and OU is better!
