La Chica just returned from a mini vacation to San Diego (California, that is) and it was wonderful to get the hell out of Atlanta for a long weekend. Geez!
As most of you know, I am a huge fan of thoroughbred racing. I love the Derby and all the pageantry that goes with it and I pray for a Triple Crown each year. However, after this past weekend's events with Eight Belles, I have changed my mind. As much as I love sports and the Triple Crown, I'm an animal lover first and foremost and I can no longer watch a sport where animals die.
I was torn on this 2 years ago when Barbaro was injured during the Preakness and then had to be put down a year later but Saturday's incident with Eight Belles sealed the deal for me. I know these horses are bred and born to run but not at the expense of dying when they're a mere 3 years old.
I know this will not impact anything in anyone else's life but for me, I'm not watching anymore horse races. It breaks my heart to decide this but it doesn't compare to the heartbreak of watching a horse have to be euthanized after running the race of her life. I was cheering emphatically for the filly on Saturday as she was the lone filly this year and the first one to run in the Derby since 1999 but no more.

OK, so since your last blog update, we have seen a new NHL Stanley Cup champion, the NBA Championships have commenced, and new French Open champions have been crowned. I won't even mention the Belmont since you apparently do not watch horse racing anymore! This BLOG IS DEAD!!! A Robin Roberts wannabee you are not Chica!

I have no reply to this, I can't even rebuttal. My apologies for not posting.
BTW, I was really upset with the Belmont, we will never see a triple crown winner ever again.
As for the NBA finals, really don't care. I would not have written anyway except to say, why do they need 2 days off between games?!
Federer will never win a French.
Stanley Cup, unless I have a dog in the fight, I'm not much of a hockey fan.
