Aye!

Hola sports freakitos! It's been awhile but your Chica has excuses.

I've started a new "real" job this week and thus have not had much time to write blog entries. Plus, I've had issues with my personal laptop which has hindered me from traveling on the web. Hence, no new entries.

And, I don't have a lot of time right now so let me get to the down and dirty: the Super Bowl.

We all know it's on Sunday at 6pm eastern time. We all know who is playing. We all know who is going to win BUT we all know who La Chica wants to win! Go Giants!!!

I hate all NY teams and I hate all NE teams but as a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan, I want my team to hold the record for the only perfect season in NFL history. Do I think that will hold up, no but a Chica can dream.

Go Giants! I've got to run but ciao for now and enjoy the hell out of the Super Bowl!

Is It So Wrong?

Is it so wrong to be a sports fan and to love one's respective teams? This is a constant argument or uncomfortable conversation that I continue to have with one of my best friends. I always come away from it pissed off and wondering why I even have to answer.

As a devoted fan of the Miami Hurricanes and Dolphins and my Atlanta Braves, it sucks! All of my teams seem to be in a bad place right now, there is light at the end of the tunnel but that's not the topic of this particular entry, the point is: Why would someone choose such pain unless it was a passion? I grew up loving sports, unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, we all know that when our teams win and win championships, it's orgasmic, but when they lose it's painful and heartbreaking. So, why would one choose this passion? Why would one choose this pain?

I know, I'm being a bit dramatic but I'm trying to get my point across. I'm done making excuses for what I love; it's who I am (LA CHICA!) and if people don't like it then don't deal with me.

So today, I'm going to continue on my merry way and watch some football. I hope you do the same.

Ciao.

NFL Playoffs

Well, the conference title games are set for this weekend as follows:

AFC
San Diego vs New England - Sunday at 3:00

NFC
New York Giants vs Green Bay - Sunday at 6:30

Here's my thing, I just want someone to beat New England but now that the Colts are out of it, I doubt San Diego will be successful. They might not be with their starting quarterback and running back, Tomlinson. That will suck. It's difficult to beat New England as it is but especially without key starters.

Speaking of the Chargers quarterback, Philip Rivers, when did he become a taunter? He was taunting the fans at Indy after last Sunday's game versus the Colts. How old is this guy? This is not behavior indicative to an NFL quarterback worth anything. You never see Peyton or Brady doing this. Nor did you ever see the other greats doing it: Marino, Elway, Montana, Favre, etc.
Grow up FREAK and just play ball!

At this juncture, La Chica is going to cheer for the Packers and the old man, Favre. As long as he doesn't cry during press conferences. Once one tear is shed, I'm out!

Georgia Dome Flu

Hola freakitos. Sorry about the delayed response regarding the national championship game but your Chica has been out of it for the last 4 days with a crazy flu-like funk. It never fails, every time I go to the Georgia Dome during the cold and flu season, I catch some nasty somethin' somethin'. I'm much better now but still have a smoker's type of hack that needs to go away.

There's not much to say about the BCS title game that you guys have not already read or watched on television. I knew Ohio State was not going to lay down for this game but in the end LSU would still take care of business. Let's face it, OSU did not deserve to be in this game.

Maybe LSU didn't either but they looked good. Maybe it was because they were healthy, who knows. As usual with the BCS, we will never know what could have been. What if LSU would have played a more worthy opponent such as USC or even Georgia. I still hold steadfast that because UGA did not win their conference they should not be in a BCS title game but they were a better and more deserving team than OSU. And I know LSU and UGA could not have played each other in the national title game but still.

The good thing is because of the way this season unfolded and screwed so many teams, big time conferences such as the SEC are bitching and demanding some kind of playoff. I think this actually might happen in my lifetime!!! Take the top 8 teams and make it a playoff, people! Screw the BCS because it will certainly screw you!

As for Oklahoma and now Ohio State: You 2 are now tied for the distinguished (insert sarcasm) honor of being the Buffalo Bills of college football. OU has lost its last 4 BCS bowl games and Ohio State has lost its last 2 title games. Look for number 3 next year as you know, the media will once again vote them in the preseason top 5, they will go undefeated due to their cushy schedule and make it back next year only to be beaten again by another SEC school. Just sayin'!

Dolphins and the Mountaineers

West Virginia has hired Bill Stewart as their new head coach:

Hmmm, this reminds me of the Larry Coker hiring. The players wanted him and he was cheap. In addition, he inherited a talented team that I could have coached to a national championship. Stewart is a nice guy but I just don't see him as head coach material much like Coker. We shall see.

On to my Dolphins: Parcells has gone in this week and taken care of business by firing the GM and the head coach! So far, I'm happy about all of this. It's going to take a couple of years but the Dolphins will be back!

One more thing: Why does OU always get a break when they lose a big game? This is their 4th straight BCS loss! Next year, they will be ranked in the top 5 before the season even starts again. Give me a break!

Quick Thoughts

Thank you bowl selection committee and the BCS for failing us fans again. As predicted, the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl were complete bores.

Hawaii was completely outmatched by Georgia and proved they did not deserve to be in a BCS game. I'm not taking anything away from their undefeated season but when you have to go into triple overtime to beat a team like San Jose State, then you know you do not deserve to be playing on a stage like last night's. Just sayin'.

As for the Rose Bowl, I really do not have much to say other than the obvious: The Rose Bowl committee or whatever these morons call themselves should be taken out back and given wedgies. They chose to honor a tradition that no one gives a shit about instead of pairing the better teams up for this game. I've said it a thousand times, Georgia and USC should have played in that game this year.

On the flip side, what a great game the Capital One Bowl turned out to be. Kudos to Michigan for playing as hard as they did!

Gotta run freakitos. Let's hope tonight's game between West Virginia and OU is better!
