Comments, Comments and More Comments
I love it! I love the fact that you guys are posting comments and just being downright nasty to each other! It makes la Sportschica smile and laugh! My turn now.

Okay, so Auburn didn't win big against Carolina but they did win, right? For the "anonymous" poster who questions my ability to pick a game winner, that's the nature of college football. This is why we love it so much; one never knows what's going to happen. If my prognostications were dead on for each game, I'd be in Vegas right now.

Also, what's up with all the anonymous commentators??? You come on the site, make judgements and sometimes write some incredibly idiotic comments (I'm referring to the freak who wrote the comment about my T.O. blog) but you hide. What's that about? Come on, show your face!

And to the anonymous poster who wrote the T.O. comment, obviously you didn't understand what I wrote. I can't help it if you're an idiot. Stay off my blog.

I love this shit! Wait, can I say shit on here?

Picks and Opinions-Revised
To my Gator friends, I didn't put your game against Alabama on my picks because I really feel it's going to be a snore unless you wear orange and blue.

Florida should crush Alabama Saturday in the Swamp! Even if Alabama didn't suck this year, Florida should be so pissed off after last year's schalacking, that they give those Elephants or Crimson Tide a beat down.

Here's the thing though, Chris Leak is your boy so quit talking about Tebow! That pisses me off.
Picks and Opinions
Can you believe we are already in Week 5 of the college football season?! Why is it that college football season goes so quickly and the NBA lasts almost all year long....it's not fair. I'll stop whinning now.

Before I go on to the picks, I must warn you that this week leaves a lot to be desired in the way of great matchups. Regardless, here we go:

#2 Auburn vs South Carolina
Does anybody else think it's strange that this game is being played on a Thursday night? When was the last time Auburn played on a Thursday? Am I the only one perplexed by this?

I've touched on this before but it is hilarious to me how my SEC friends freak out about playing Steve Spurrier's 'Cocks (insert joke here). People, this Carolina team sucks! Auburn is going to win big in Columbia this evening.

#24 Georgia Tech vs #11 Virginia Tech
Here is a quote from an article on ESPN.com yesterday regarding two Va Tech players. Can you tell me the 2 things wrong with the write up below:

"Ellis and Morgan were suspended by coach Frank Beamer on Monday after both players were arrested early Sunday morning following an altercation outside a downtown nightclub in Blacksburg, Va."

1) Frank Beamer actually suspended 2 players before a game. And....
2) There's a nightclub in Blacksburg, VA???

Okay, I'll stop now. I'm going to get a little crazy here and pick Ga Tech to win in Blacksburg.

#1 Ohio St vs #13 Iowa
I'm not a fan of the Big 10 but I must say that this game interests me because I think Iowa will give the Buckeyes a hard time. Iowa has a good little team this year with a great quarterback and the game is in Iowa City. Given these factors, plus the fact that I'm a little crazy today, I'm going to pick the Hawkeyes to upset the Buckeyes (what's the deal with the Midwest and the "eyes"?).

#10 Georgia vs Ole Miss
This game doesn't really interests me because I think UGA is going to kill Ole Miss but I have a friend who is a huge Rebels fan and I haven't talked about his team this season. Sorry Pete, but I think the Bulldogs are going to win.

Houston vs Miami
I told you guys it was slim pickings this week. Here's a battle of unranked teams (insert picture of la Sportschica crying here) but I had to include it because one of them is my team and it's a slow week. For you Miami haters, Houston may win this game! However, I'm going to go with Miami, they have GOT to win this game to save face. Ugh, it's going to be a long Hurricane season.

Say It Ain't So, T.O. (For Neal)

All of the internet sports sites are reporting that Terrell Owens allegedly tried to commit suicide by overdosing on prescription drugs. However, a recent story says it's not true: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/6006094?FSO1&ATT=HCP&GT1=8595

Which one is it? Did he or didn't he? With all due respect, should we care so much? What does T.O. have to be so upset about?

Let's see: 1) He gets to play a child's game for a living and makes a boat load of money to do it. 2) While playing the aforementioned child's game, he gets to say and do whatever he wants regardless of its impact on others. 3) And did I mention, he makes eleventy billion dollars playing this child's game?

My heart goes out to people who are so affected by depression that they attempt to take their own lives but my heart doesn't really go out to T.O. Does that make me a cold-hearted Sportschica? Discuss and get back to me.

Notre Damn

I hate to devote an entire blog to Notre Dame but damnit, I'm gonna have to. Notre Dame got their asses handed to them on great big communion platters a week and a half ago by Michigan. Suddenly, no one was talking about them to win the national championship or Brady Quinn for Heisman. Rightfully so, I might add.

This past Saturday, Notre Dame comes back from behind and beats an UNRANKED Michigan State team. Let me repeat that, an UNRANKED Michigan State team. Thus begins the media hype again.

You might be questioning my motives for this anti-Notre Dame blog or you might not care. I just want to know this, what is the love affair with Notre Dame and the media?

Is it the catholic thing? Is it the Lou Holtz thing? Because let me just say for the record, it's rumored that Lou Holtz sold his soul to the devil to escape sanctions so do not bring God into this. He has washed his hands of him too!

I talk to a lot of people while out and about and the majority of the peeps I meet hate Notre Dame as well so.....I'm baffled. Is there someone out there that can help me understand this?

By the way, in case you haven't figured it out, la Sportschica HATES Notre Dame! It goes all the way back to the 1980s when Miami had a huge rivalry with them. Those games were classics but, sadly, ND chose to stop playing Miami (again, see Lou Holtz and devil pact).

Somebody please explain this to la Sportschica.

Oh and if one more person asks me if I've seen the movie Rudy, I may throw up in my mouth right there in front of God and everybody.

P.S. I will say this about Notre Dame: Brady Quinn is a fine, fine, specimen. Hey, I'm still a chica!

Weekend Observations
This was my stream of consiousness while watching football this weekend. If it sounds wacky it's because it is wacky!

What's up with all these college football players having kids while in school? I know that happens from time to time and it's a part of life, but it seems like a lot of these young players are already family men. While watching the Colorado/Georgia game, I was shocked to hear that one player has 4 kids!!! What's even more interesting to me is that it's usually a kid from Louisiana or Utah. I can understand the Utah one ("Mormon Factor").

Speaking of Colorado, they killed themselves with penalties Saturday. They had so many chances to put Georgia away but didn't. It's amazing the differences between a good team and one that truly sucks! The Buffaloes being the sucky ones.

Somebody needs to give ESPN commentator Sean McDonough some much needed shots of espresso before and during the football game. His excitement level for football is equal to my level of excitement right before a gyno appointment. Wake up Sean, you've got a cool job!

Ah, the power of advertising. The marketing peeps at Ruby Tuesday are brilliant. I found myself desperately craving those Ruby Minis all day Saturday. It took all the energy in my body to NOT make a b-line for the nearest Ruby Tuesdays, seriously. Damn, now I want them again.

Why does Jim Tressel (Ohio State head coach) still wear a sweater vest? Did we not learn anything from Chandler on Friends?

I don't know what this is called but while watching a game on CBS, I noticed that they now have a lot of additional information on the screen while the game is being played. The area in the top right-hand corner that shows the team names, score and downs is HUGE. It takes up almost the entire screen. In addition, they have also added a ticker at the bottom with a big ole eye (the CBS logo). It's freaky and I want it gone.

Kudos to Troy University for playing the big football schools. Troy is trying to become one of these big programs and they're doing what they have to in order to get that done. That's how the FSUs and Miami's of the world did it back in the day.

What about Rutgers??!! They are ranked this week for the first time in decades, well I don't really know if it's been decades but I certainly can't remember the last time Rutgers was ranked and I'm old.

And lastly, as everyone knows, the Atlanta Falcons are playing the Saints in the Superdome this evening on Monday Night Football. Now, I think it's great that the city is able to host an event in that nasty dome but I ask everyone going to or playing in the game to watch out for random feces that may have not been picked up. I'm just saying!

Picks and Opinions
Wow, this is a boring weekend in college football. Of course, after last Saturday's games, it's going to be difficult to replicate the intensity.

If la Sportschica's tone sounds bored and indifferent it's because I am and can't help it this week. I'm going to have to force myself to watch these games. Without further delay, here they are:

Virginia vs Georgia Tech
2 unranked teams. UVA has not shown a darn thing thus far this season. I'm going with GT at home.

#24 Penn State vs #1 Ohio State
Ugh, can somebody please beat this team (Ohio St); this is not a question but a plea! Buckeyes win at home.

#22 Arizona State vs #21 California
PAC 10, blah, blah, blah. I'm going with Cal at home. Actually, this might be a fun little game. Maybe it'll be on at a reasonable time here on the East coast.....rrrrright.

#12 Notre Dame vs Michigan State
Don't be surprised if Drew Stanton and his Spartan buddies give old Charlie Tuna fits. In fact, I'm going to go with Michigan State all the way!!!

Maybe this weekend's games won't be so boring after all.

Back

This has been a busy week for la Sportschica plus the events of this past Saturday put a damper on my football posts. Fret not fellow football freaks and stay tuned for my picks and lots of opinions coming up.

Off topic: Does anybody watch The Biggest Loser on NBC? God bless reality tv.

Okay, if you're a non-Hurricane fan please look away but I must address the "Miami Issue" prompted from this past weekend's horrible loss.

As you can imagine, everything's a buzz down in Coral Gables and the natives are begging for a change in coaching. I don't think it's going to happen until the end of the season so, we have another 3 months of bad football. Things may turn around but I seriously doubt it.

According to a babillion articles in the Miami Herald this week and from Omar Kelly's blog on the Sun Sentinel site, if the Canes do not make the ACC championship game, Coker will be gone. Duh!

Most of us know the Canes are not going to win the ACC so we look forward to the change. I know I do!!!

Here's a good little read on what some peeps are saying in Coral Gables this week regarding the coaching problem at UM: http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/15561363.htm

Officiating Bloops, Blunders and Really Bad Calls
I find this quite ironic since the Big 12 conference has horrible officiating:
http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/5979210?FSO1&ATT=HMA

Gee, I wish I knew all it took was a letter from the President of the university!

Karma is a bitch.

Doom, Despair and Agony On Me...
Who would have thought that years later a Hee Haw song would sum up the sentiments of la SportsChica. This Sunday morning blog is intended for Cane fans. It may not make much sense because it's my stream of consciousness after another loss.

There's something rotten in the state of Miami football; if you've read Hamlet then you understand what I mean. Simply put, something is very wrong with the Miami football program.

And I'm not taking anything away from the Louisville team because they beat Miami up and down that field on both sides of the ball. There were no bad calls and no excuses. The Canes were bent over and.........point made.

It's bad enough watching your team lose like that on national television on a day that truly separated the good teams from the bad; it's excruciatingly worse to watch it happen twice in one year (see Peach Bowl).

It is time for Larry Coker to go. If it were up to me, it would happen today. Critics can say it's not fair, he led the team to a national championship 5 years ago and almost a second one the following year but those things do not matter in Hurricane nation. The facts are: recruiting has slipped considerably, there's no passion and there's certainly no swagger!!!

A team is a reflection of its head coach and right now this team sucks. Again, my apologies but I'm mad as hell. Losing a close game is one thing but it's quite another to get your ass kicked on national television, AGAIN.

And I know it's just a game but as a devoted Hurricane fan and contributor, I've earned my right to bitch. It's time for a drastic change in Coral Gables.

9.15.2006

Somebody Please Tell Me, What Kind of S_ _ _ Is This?
......(snicker, snicker). This is going to be a new segment about inexplicable items plus it makes me laugh each time I think or say the phrase out loud. Here we go.

Did anybody watch the Maryland/West Virginia game last night? All I could say was "wow". Steve Slaton and Pat White were unstoppable. Who cares if they can't pass the ball, they don't need to. I would really love to see WV play a prepared, quick and big defense though but their schedule is laughable with Louisville as their only ranked opponent. And we really don't know how good Louisville is. Well, until tomorrow afternoon when they face Miami. I think Steve Slaton might be faster than Reggie Bush!

Speaking of Bush (insert joke here), looks like he's in trouble again...allegedly. Here's the article: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2588347. Isn't this the second investigation on him? Here's my thing, I think student athletes should get paid to a degree, but if no one else can benefit from it at the moment, revoke his Heisman and sanction USC. I'm just saying.

Speaking of USC, why is College Gameday doing their broadcast from Los Angeles this Saturday? USC is playing #19 Nebraska, people! It would be different if Nebraska were ranked higher but they're not and if ESPN thinks it might be a close game, then I want some of the drugs they're doing. I need them this week!

There are 6 other games this weekend more important than that one. Not to mention, last night during the game, Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler were all but begging for fans to come out and support Gameday. Do you think they would have to do that if the show was being broadcast from, oh I don't know: Knoxville, TN, Auburn, AL or Louisville, KY??!! Geez, once again ESPN disappoints.

9.14.2006

Picks and Opinions
This is a huge Saturday, there are 7 games that are more than worthy of mention! Let's just get to it.

#11 Michigan vs #2 Notre Dame
I think both these teams are overrated and I don't think Michigan will go into South Bend and beat the Irish so I'm, reluctantly, picking Notre Dame.

#6 LSU vs #3 Auburn
Tiger tumble. Home field advantage is such a huge deal in college football; if this game was not being played in Auburn, I would go with LSU. I think Auburn is going to take care of the Bayou Bengals, especially at home. P.S. Sorry to the nice guys I recently met from LSU, you guys were cool!

#17 Miami vs #12 Louisville
One could argue that this is going to be a high scoring game but it depends on which Hurricane offense shows up. Miami's defense is stellar but it can only do so much, if the offense does not do its part it will be a long day for the Canes (and me!). I still cannot get that FSU game out of my head and I know I'm going to get smack from my fellow "caniacs" but I'm picking Louisville. I just don't see Miami's offense stepping up. Prove me wrong Canes!

#15 Oklahoma vs #18 Oregon
There's always one game I really don't care about and this is it. However, it may surprise me and turn out to be a fun little game. I'm actually going with the PAC 10 and picking Oregon to win!

Clemson vs #9 Florida State
It's too bad that Clemson lost a close one last week to BC, it caused them to fall out of the top 25. Regardless, this game will be closer than people think. Florida State's offense leaves a lot to be desired as well but I think they have enough to beat the Tigers. Also, FSU has a great defense so...they win at home.

#19 Nebraska vs #4 USC
Um, I'm just going to go ahead and pick USC.

#7 Florida vs #13 Tennessee
Two weeks ago, I would have been all over this game. Sadly, Tennessee lost 2 key defensive starters (a defensive lineman and cornerback) last week so that changes things. Ouch! Even though it's in Rocky Top, I'm going with the Gators on this one.

9.13.2006

Get Off Lance
Most people do not realize this (and don't care) but la Sportschica is a huge cycling fan. Even though I lack the coordination needed to be a good cyclist, I love it. My favorite guy in the sport is, of course, Lance Armstrong. I admire his resiliency and respect his physical ability.

In my humble opinion, racing in the Tour de France is the toughest sports achievement. To win it once is praiseworthy, to win it seven times is amazing. Therefore, it bothers me when the media is still accusing him of doping.

The latest is from a NY Times article in which 2 of Lance's former teammates admitted to doping during the 1999 tour. Lance won his first Tour de France in 1999.

Let me clear the air in case you care, I hate the NY Times! Aren't they the ones who keep leaking CIA secrets or something? Anyway, that's a whole other blog and we're not going there.

Back to Lance, he's never tested positive for any drugs. He was randomly tested time and time again at races, at his hotel, at airports, etc. and not one test came up positive. So until that happens, I got your back Lance!!!

9.12.2006

Snap!

I was going to leave this alone but an "anonymous" poster ticked me off. His or her answer to my Sunday, 9/10/06, blog titled "Act Like You've Been There Before" was bringing up the rap song some Miami students made up last year. Is that all you got???

I will admit, back in the day, Miami had some bad behavior going on. No doubt about it. However, Butch Davis and Larry Coker have cleaned it up in the last 10 years. So, if all you've got is the rap song, I'll take it. And by the way, I'm not the only one who felt this way about Ohio State's recent misbehavior, this is an excerpt from Mark Schlabach's article on espn.com called "SEC Prepares for Separation Sunday":

Off the Mark
Ohio State riots. Ohio State is once again dealing with ill-behaved students after the No. 1 Buckeyes' 24-7 win at then No. 2 Texas on Saturday night. Police arrested 17 people, including five for arson, after 35 to 40 fires were set in a neighborhood occupied mostly by students. A dumpster was set ablaze, and two cars were burned. Three people were injured when they were hit by a car. The Buckeyes were ranked No. 1 in the country and won a national championship four years ago. You've been there before, so act like it.

9.11.2006

Weekend Recap

Well, the Manning brothers played each other last night and it didn't spark the second coming of Christ. I'm glad Peyton's team won though. I'm not a big fan of the younger one.

The 2 high profile college football games turned out to be kind of boring, unless you were a Buckeye or an Irish fan. By the way, didn't I predict that Notre Dame would win at home?? I think one of my posters doubted me and told me to bet my house on Penn State. Good thing I don't own a house!

Also, Georgia went into Columbia and beat Steve Spurrier's Gamecocks. I'm not a Bulldog fan but I certainly like Mark Richt a lot more than I like "the old ball coach".

Roger Federer won the US Open.......SHOCKER!

9.08.2006

And Another Thing...
Sorry but I just thought about this, this Sunday Peyton and Eli Manning will play against each other. And the media hype is overflowing.

Is anyone else tired of hearing about the Mannings? I mean when you think about it, what have they done? Neither won a national championship with their respective college teams. Neither won a Heisman. Neither has won a super bowl. Hell, even their dad, Archie Manning, never won any of those!

Understand this, I think both of these guys are talented and good but enough already!

Sorry, I'm a little bitter and grumpy this week.
What Else Is There To Talk About?
I was going to take a break from blogging today when my smartass friend, Neal, said "why, you can talk about something besides football". What Neal does not understand is that for me, at this time of the year, I really can't think of much else to talk about.

It's been a rough week for me and MY football. Let's recap, shall we?

Monday: I was so excited, finally the 'Canes season opener against the much hated FSU Seminoles. I knew in my heart that this game was going to make me sad but things looked good in the 2nd quarter for Miami. And then the $%#! hit the fan. We all know the rest of the story.

Tuesday: I moped around the house, watched a little tv and even managed to do my workout. I received only one phone call all day; even my parents didn't try to reach me. My friend Mia called to see "how I was doing after the loss". It finally hits me: life is not that bad. It's just a game SportsChica.

Wednesday: Things are looking up. The new episode of Project Runway is sure to take my mind off my sucky team and it did. Life is good.

Thursday: Dinner with a friend at Houston's. Yes it's a chain but by God, I love it! After dinner we decide to watch some of the Dolphins game at a local hangout. You know the rest. My other Miami team got their ass kicked too....on national television, again! Oh, and now I owe another friend of mine a 12-pack of his nasty beer (damn you, Blackie!).

Am I being punished?

9.07.2006

Picks and Opinions
The regular season of the NFL kicks off tonight with the Miami Dolphins vs Pittsburgh. The Dolphins are my favorite pro team and I just pray and hope that this Miami team doesn't get humiliated on national television like my other Miami team did earlier this week. Can I please get a break? Sheesh.

I think the Dolphins have a shot. Big Ben had an appendectomy this week so....I'm going with Miami!

On to college football. It's the second weekend and there aren't that many good games this week. However, ladies and freaks, next weekend is heaven on earth for a college football fan; I can't wait! Okay, here are my picks for the games I'm interested in this week:

#19 Penn St vs #4 Notre Dame
I don't care for either of these teams. Hey, it's my blog and I can say what I want! I hope Penn St wins but I don't think they will. Notre Dame wins at home.

#12 Georgia vs South Carolina
All of my SEC friends are so scared of playing Steve Spurrier's Carolina team, it CRACKS me up! I can't say that I blame them because for as much as he failed as a pro coach, he makes up with his great college coaching. I don't like the guy but he does know how to coach the school kids.

Okay, UGA is a better team on paper than Carolina (I just can't refer to them as USC) but it is being played in Columbia and at night. Those fans are crazy over there and really don't have anything else to do so they'll be ready; however, I'm gonna go with Georgia. Sic 'em and all that other crap y'all say.

#1 Ohio St vs #2 Texas
This will be a doozy. Number 1 versus number 2 and all. I think Ohio St is the better team but the weather for Saturday night in Austin is slated to be in the 90's and we all know Texas humidity is different than anything in the Midwest. Not to mention, the crowd will really be in to it. I think it's going to be a tight game but I'm going to pick Texas. Hook 'em Horns, blah, blah, blah.

9.06.2006

US Open
I received a question the other day on whether I was going to talk about the US Open on la SportsChica, so here goes. The US Open is my favorite Grand Slam tournament and I always watch it.....but not this year.

Well, actually, I watched the Andre Agassi matches and that's about it! I'm completely disenchanted with tennis right now. The players bore me to tears.

Don't get me wrong, Roger Federer is an amazing player but man is he a snore. And you know he's going to win it all, again. God bless Andy Roddick but I don't see him pulling it off and beating Federer in this tournament (I hope I'm wrong on this one).

And then there's Serena Williams. She is so busy being a model (rrrrright), a clothes designer, an actress, a rapper, etc. that she's lost her tennis luster. She needs to pick a career. You cannot be a part-time tennis player and win the big tourneys.

I'm going to miss Andre Agassi though, he was the Jimmy Connors of my time.

9.05.2006

Why Must There Be People On Stilts?
The first weekend of college football has come and gone. If you were like me you were feasting on football all weekend and it was grand. Of course, there's always going to be things that just annoy the $%#! out of me while watching games. Let's just call these items:

"The $%#! That Pissed Me Off"

Number 5: Why do car dealerships insist on commercials involving people on stilts? Do they think that I, as a consumer, will be sitting at home watching my game and suddenly decide to purchase a car because of the circus atmosphere? People on stilts have scared me since I first saw them at the circus when I was 10; things have not changed. They're freaks!

Number 4: Why did Notre Dame receive a preseason number 2 ranking? Was it just me or did anyone else notice how they struggled against an unranked team Saturday night? I'm so sick of the media hype they get just because they're Notre Dame and I can't wait to see them lose this season.

Number 3: Chicks who cheer for every single play made during a game. These girls produce a shrill sound (no exaggeration) for anything and quite frankly gals, you're making the rest of us who actually know about sports look bad. Please stop!

Number 2: I got a lot of $%#! from one particular jackass last week because I said that no one really cares about college football out West. I still feel that way! By the way, did you see how Tennessee beat the crap out of California? What did I tell you?!

Number 1: For those of you who watched the FSU/Miami game last night, it appears that the Miami offense picked up right where they left off during the Peach Bowl last year. Good grief. That $%#! really pissed me off!

That's it for now.
