Just to get us ready for Monday night.
What The....
I need to defend my posts and answer some of the "pressing" questions posed upon the SportsChica:

Starting with "the Canes should be on Court TV": This is laughable to me considering the poster is an obvious Florida State fan and his team is dubbed as the Creminoles. Get a new joke Tait!

At least the head coach at Miami suspends his players for any actions on and off the field (See Ryan Moore). Bobby Bowden will let his players play the "dadgum" game regardless of how many items are stolen. I didn't want to go there because I actually like the old man but I had to.

To my buddy who questions my knowledge of the In-Field Fly Out rule: I'm sure I will have plenty of opportunity to teach you what it means, Atlcane. Don't worry, a lot of guys your age don't know what it means either.

And another thing, Georgia Tech certainly has a shot at beating Notre Dame this Saturday especially since the ND defense is the same as last year's. Of course it means that Reggie Ball must play almost flawless football but stranger things have happened such as actual FSU football players graduating from college.

Dolphins vs Steelers bet: I take it you're picking the Steelers, correct? I'll take the Dolphins over the Steelers next Thursday night. Let's talk points later. By the way, my new beverage of choice is Veuve Clicquot.

Lastly, Trigeek and the '03 Fiesta Bowl question:
What would you credit as the reason why Miami lost the '03 Fiesta Bowl to a heavy underdog, Ohio State? Do you believe:
A) Ohio State outplayed Miami
B) Jim Tressel outcoached Larry Coker
C) the Miami players were dreaming of South Beach
D) all of the above?

My only response to you is Terry Porter.

Picks and Thoughts
Before I go on to my picks and thoughts, I have to say; I'm digging this blog thing! Keep sending me your commentary and while we're on that subject, some of y'all are 'tripping'.

Okay, unless you've been under a rock this week, everyone knows the college football season is upon us. Heck, even my dog knows something is up. And because it's the season kickoff, we are fortunate enough to have games starting Thursday and continuing through Monday evening....God bless America! There are a babillion games this weekend and while most of them will be a snore since it's the first game for everyone, there are a few that interest me:

Thursday: Boston College vs Central Michigan
Honestly, I really don't care about this game but I needed a Thursday game on here. I'm going to go with the ACC and pick BC. I don't do spreads or predict actual scores so that's it.

Friday: Nevada vs Fresno State
Those of us blessed enough to live in the southern part of the country (I'm gonna get smack talk about this, I know it.) really DO NOT CARE about football out west. Am I right? Regardless, I'm going to go with Nevada for a friend of mine who's moving out there on the same day.

Saturday Games:
Vanderbilt vs #14 Michigan - Poor Vandy, last year was the year for them when they had Jay Cutler. I just don't see them going up to Ann Arbor and winning there so my pick is Michigan.
Marshall vs #5 West Virginia - Everyone is talking about West Virginia this year and rightfully so, they proved how good they were in the Sugar Bowl. I'm going to pick them to win this game however, I don't agree with a lot of the analysts who have them winning the national championship. Last year, we didn't know how good this WV team was, this year we do. They're not going to be able to "sneak in" and beat a team that plays in a tougher conference. I could be wrong but I'm just saying.
FAU vs #18 Clemson - Even with a new starting quarterback, Clemson should do well this season but don't we always say that? I'm going with the ACC and Clemson in this game.
#9 Cal vs #23 Tennessee - Hmmm, this is kind of a tough one. Here's the thing, yes Cal is ranked number 9 in the country but again, they play in the PAC 10. I hate to toot the SEC's horn but even a #23 Tennessee team might be better than a #9 PAC 10 team. I'm going to go with the home team and pick Tennessee. I think that hearing the band play Rocky Top like 8,000 times in one game will wear out the Golden Bears.
#2 Notre Dame vs Georgia Tech - My little prayer for GT: "Lord, please don't let Reggie Ball play like an ass". If Reggie plays well then GT has a chance to beat them. I'm going to stick with the ACC and pick Georgia Tech.

Sunday: Kentucky vs #13 Louisville
Louisville is another Big East team that everyone likes this year. They are good and I'm afraid for my team in a couple of weeks when they travel there to play them. I'm going with Louisville here.

Monday: #11 FSU vs #12 Miami
Last but certainly not least, this is the one that's closest to my heart for obvious reasons. I'm not going to beat around the bush, this is always a tough game and even though it's in the Orange Bowl this year, the 'Canes are going to have their hands full. The 2 teams are pretty evenly matched and both return their starting quarterbacks but I have to go with my team: Go 'Canes!

Remember When.....
...MTV played music videos, and not on cable channel 451 but the real MTV channel? Don't get me wrong, I love a reality show as much as the next girl but every now and then it would be nice to see some old fashioned music videos back on MTV, right? Well, it's the same thing with ESPN!

Remember when the folks on ESPN talked solely about football, baseball, basketball, tennis, etc.? Nowadays, I have to hear about how Joe College Football came from meager beginnings and clawed his way into the University of (fill in the blank) while his mom worked 14 jobs just so he could play football while his little brother had a paper route, ran a lemonade stand and sold blizzards at the local Dairy Queen. Geeeez.

I know I can flip the channel but give me a break, I'm still a chick. I'll reluctantly start watching the story and end up in tears clutching anything I can get my hands on and asking "Why God, why?"

Here's the thing, I don't need that on Saturday mornings while I'm watching College Gameday. I want to see the goods. I want to know Lee Corso's crazy picks, I want to hear Kirk Herbstreit picking Miami to win it all (Was Kirk on crack during the Gameday Preview?) and Chris Fowler defending his Colorado Buffaloes even though they're gonna suck again this year! If you want to hear about a college football tragedy, how about the University of Tennessee Volunteer who's name is Jim Bob Cooter. See for yourself: http://utsports.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/tenn-m-footbl-mtt.html As we say in the south, bless his heart!

And before peeps start thinking I'm cold and devoid of feeling; that's not the case at all. Okay, maybe just a smidgen. Nevertheless, I'm glad these kids get scholarships and have a chance to get an education but I don't need to hear about where they came from on Saturdays in the fall from 10:30 AM - noon. 'Nuff said!
