Who's Number 2?
First off, why does Ohio State have to remain at number 1? I know my only Buckeye friend is going to have a field day with this one but, a chica has to express her opinions!

The Coaches Poll has USC at number 2 while the AP Poll has Florida at number 2. What the "bleep"???!!! Again, I am not tootin' the SEC or Florida but USC barely beat an unranked Washington Husky team while meanwhile, on the other side of the country, Florida decisively beat a number 9 LSU team.

I could understand it if USC had won the national title last year but guess what, they did not. This is not the same team from a year ago so quit giving them the same props! Also, the only ranked team USC has beaten so far this year is number 21 Nebraska (they were ranked #19 at that time). Give me a freaking break.

Florida has beaten 2 ranked teams in the same timeframe. Please don't get me wrong, I hate Florida. I'm sick of hearing about Steve Spurrier; I'm sick of hearing Gator fans talk about Steve Spurrier. Gator peeps, nobody cares about him except for you guys and ya'll should get over him too!! Move on.

However, here's the thing, I'm all about fairness in sports and especially regarding college football. The Gators deserve the number 2 ranking this week and if they beat Auburn this weekend, they deserve to jump over Ohio State and be number 1.

You are preaching to the choir Rev Sportschica. Remember in the nineties when USC had like 5 fans in the stadium to watch the song girls no less. Now every celebrity is a fan of Pete Carrolls' Trojans. And I don't anyone telling how high powered the offenses are in the Pac 10. I mean everyone is saying Cal looks like a championship team and if I remember correctly, Nate Longshore paddled to the sideline in the first half of the Tenn game because he kept getting picked off. Why? He had never played against a REAL defense. Next thing you know everyone will ask why John David "Shake Your" Booty isn't the top Heisman candiate. Wait-I am sure they have him in the top 3

I loathe the Gators and Urban Meyer is a bit too smirky for my liking. But so was Darth Visor. And they beat UGA almost every year and I can admit that. The Gators should clearly be number 2. They have earned it.

Daddy loves all the positive Gator-talk!

I commented on this on 10-3, and still agree that if FL makes it through Auburn away AND FL/GA, they should bump OSU to #2, and take the #1 spot.

I say this, and it has alllmost nothing to do with me being a 2/3 Gator - 1/3 Buckeye Fan! :) Don't even start on this, Chicacita! Who is your Buckeye friend? Trigeek? Am I at least one of the 2% of the Gator fans you like?? Pleeease like me, SportsChica!!

Who keeps talking about Spurrier? I stopped relating/tying him to the Gators ever since he decided to be a Cock and became a member of Augusta National. Smart man. I also supported The Urbanator immediately, unlike my boy, DougE.

OK, I can buy the Florida love. USC gives me a case of the yawns. And personally, I detest Ohio State - quite a lot. That said, Ohio State looks like a damned good team. Yes, their coach looks like he spent his alot of his childhood getting swirlies, but DAMN, I wish Iowa could get some of their players. Are the Bucks better than Florida? Don't know, but I'm looking forward to seeing that matchup post season.

Devo, hmmm, you got a lot of work to do for la Sportschica's love! DougE and the other Fla fan we know are nice Gators to la Chica! You just keep pissing me off, you know what I'm talking about!

LB, I am with you on the Ohio State hate, as you know. However, I agree they've got a good team this year and will more than likely play for the title. I just hope they play a really, really, really good team!

This weekend's game with Florida/Auburn is gonna be a doozy. I hope it lives up to the hype and doesn't disappoint.

I agree. The PAC 10 as a whole needs to be introduced to defense. Yeah it's high powered, but everyone sits back in disgustingly soft zone packages with DBs giving up giant cushions to any and all receivers. It's an open invitation to throw the ball. Their idea of good D is to blitz occassionally. USC has won because they mix in a little actual D with all of that PAC 10 O, and no one else does. They also disguise their coverages very well, which no one else in the PAC 10 really bothers to do.

Urban is as bad as Spurrier with his platooning QBs and gimmicky O. He is the reincarnation of the Visored One to me. You could call him Darth Lite since he isn't quite as annoying a personality. I believe he should settle on one QB because if he doesn't it could cost him dearly in crunchtime. Leak seems to be a nice guy, but Tebo is better. Was anyone else surprised that the War Eagles gave it up so decisively to Woo Pig Sooie? Will it be the Buckeyes vs Urban's Platoon for all the marbles, or will the dynamic personality of one Lloyd Carr crash the party? Lord know OSU doesn't play anyone until then. Will Little Urban get past the now relaxed and loose War Eagles?

I was out in the wilderness this weekend when I looked afar off and saw a smoke signal, a smoke signal filled with OSU baiting fromthe Sports Chica. Being the mature man I am, I went back to my fine, hand rolled Cuban cigar and didn't take the bait.

That said, I will still comment. Bottom line is, who cares who is #1? All I care about is OSU being #2 when it counts..........the evening of December 3 when the Fiesta Bowl selection is announced.

Now, as to "why should OSU still be #1?". Oh, c'mon. Give me a tough question next time, will ya? From the beginning of time, with the one exception of 1995 when the coaches decided that their pure as the wind driven snow, perrenial big game choker Tom Osborne, deserved to receive the college football equivalent of a honorary doctorate, when you start #1, YOU STAY #1 UNTIL BEATEN. With several weeks to go in the season, Penn State was #1 and NU was #2. Penn State put in their reserves in a romp over Illinois. Predictably, Illiniois made a game of it and, whallah, NU was vaulted to the #1 spot. Even though Penn State finished undefeated, NU was GIVEN the national championship in both polls. That's why!

The polls are not about who is better than who. The polls are about who starts out where and remains unbeaten thereafter. Is it right? Hail no. But that's the way it is..........making an eight team playoff the only way to settle things once and for all.

One final point for the resident SEC biggots. Just because someone runs the table or has one loss in the SEC doesn't mean they deserve shit. This year in, year out crap about how the SEC is without a doubt the best conference is just that, crap. The bowl records do NOT support it. Nor does the non-conference record, especially after all the games against I-AA equivalents are thrown out. Just because you're perception and ESPN GameDay's perception is that the SEC is allmighty and that the SEC champion deserves a permanent spot in the nat'l championship game doesn't make it so. If it did, we wouldn't have witnessed that beautiful night last January in the Georgia Dome when WVU, who still is getting no respect, annihilated the SEC champion in front of a home crowd. How soon the SEC morons forget that whipping.
